Noah, tonight...

I came home and gave Paul a hug. Then Noah pulled me back to embrace Paul again so that he could hug both of us (well, our legs) at the same time and say 'I love you.' He then did this about twelve times.

Noah can count to fourteen. Not totally in order. It goes something like this, "seven, eleven, FOURTEEN!"

Noah is picking up words from the radio...He can now say "NPR" and "Bama, Obama!" When we ask him who the president is, he either responds "grandma" or "Obama."

He's still carting around his stuffed animals saying, "baby, baby, I love you." He threw all of his babies into his crib, as well as half a dozen books (much to his mama's chagrin, but I couldn't think of a good reason to forbid it, except it seemed rather busy in there).

Vocabularious!

Noah's vocabulary has been growing by leaps and bounds. We were sitting at the farmers market and Noah heard me say "canonical". He immediately started saying "can-i-cal".

He's also been stringing together sentences. Karen was driving Noah to a friends house for BBQ. I was riding my bike to the BBQ and Noah was asking for "Daddy". Karen explained that I was riding my bike and that he would see me soon. Noah then starting explaining to Karen that "Daddy, baku (his word for bicycle), soon".

He's also warming up to the word "no". When we ask him most questions, he responds with a very happy "no". That doesn't mean that'll refuse to do whatever we ask him, just that he wants to say "no". Two nights ago I asked him if wanted to go upstairs to sleep. He said "no"! I said "Great! Let's go!" and he ran upstairs.

Karen overheard him practicing saying no. He was having both sides of a conversation, which went like this.

"Peas"?
"No"!
"Peas"?
"No"!
"Peas"?
"No"!

He's also been going to sleep practicing the names of everyone he knows, grouped by relationship to each other.

He's just fantastic.

Love to everyone,

Paul

The Weather

Noah is coming to terms with our Seattle weather. He pointed at the falling rain on Saturday and said "pee pee."

He is also spinning around and dancing a lot these days.

Busses and cars

One of Noah's early words was bus. Starting maybe 4 months ago whenever he'd see a bus he happily yell "Busssssth" and excitedly point at the bus. Soon afterwards any large vehicle became a bus, including airplanes as long as they were on the ground.

Today, when taking Noah out to the car he pointed at the car and said, quite distinctly, "Car!" He then repeated himself 10 or 20 times. Noah is an amazing kid, and I now completely understand why all parents hold the firm conviction that their child is a genius, children are geniuses, and Noah is too.

Stay tuned for some pics and a movie in the next day or so.

More of Noah's words

Noah is now able to say words with hard consonants at the end, specifically, he can now say "cup"!

The other day Noah pointed at the moon (you can see it here even midday) and yelled "ball!"

His favourite word is still bottle, which he says a lot. He has at least one bottle in his hand most of the time. When he leaves the house it's almost guaranteed that he'll have a bottle with him.

One of our friends gave us some advice, which was that Noah would become attached to some toy or other, and that as soon as we determined what that toy was, we should buy several so that the security toy shouldn't be lost. The trick was to rotate the versions of the toy out, so that he would accept any of the replacements.

It's almost certain that Noah's special toy is a water bottle. Not any specific bottle, any of a variety of bottles seem equivalent and excellent.

It's the day after DST and Noah has been pushing his push toy back and forth for the past 30 minutes, he seems very happy!
